Fact: Ticks can look for hosts on which to feed anytime temperatures reach 4ºC and above. In some parts of Canada, ticks can be active all year round!

Fact: Lyme disease is an emerging infectious disease, according to Health Canada. It is transmitted by Blacklegged and Western blacklegged ticks that carry the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi.

Fact: Although some ticks do prefer to live in areas with tall grass, Blacklegged ticks are most likely to be found in shaded and moist habitats, such as leaf litter, ground-cover gardens, and wooded areas.

Ask your veterinarian for recommendations about appropriate treatment and control measures to help protect your pet from ticks and tick-borne diseases.
